[Video] Not Your Mama’s Brown Rice



This is how I make rice, although it’s not how my mom taught me. When I became an adult and started to make rice, I tried everything. This became my favorite technique because it gives me more control and better rinsing of rice.

We make a lot of extra rice for leftovers and sack lunches.

  • ORGANIC, Brown Rice
  • Water
  • Olive Oil (optional)


  1. Fill pan about 1/4 with rice.
  2. Rinse rice (see demo).
  3. Fill rice pan with water.
  4. Bring to boil.
  5. Reduce to simmer and cook until desired texture.
  6. Drain water from rice.
  7. Optional: toss with a bit of olive oil.
  8. Serve with meal, sauce, seasonings, or liquid aminos.
